Dr. Shawn E. Trokhan, of Trokhan Orthopaedics LLC, is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in general orthopaedic issues including sports injuries, ACL reconstruction, shoulder and knee arthroscopy, fracture care/surgery, and joint replacement surgery. He was born and raised in Ross, Ohio, a small town north of Cincinnati. Dr. Trokhan graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was a swimmer for the nationally acclaimed St. Xavier Bombers. After graduating from St. Xavier he attended Princeton University, where he was a four-year Varsity swimmer and earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology.
Afterward he began pursuing a career in medicine, attending Case Western University School of Medicine, which is associated with the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. While at Case, he was actively involved in voluntary work and was a leader in the Case Orthopaedic student interest group. After medical school, Dr. Trokhan completed his orthopaedic surgical residency at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York City, serving as Chief Resident in his final year. He trained with orthopaedic academic giants such as Evan Flatow, M.D. and Michael Hausman, M.D., as well as with busy surgeons Michael Bronson, M.D., James Gladstone, M.D., and Jon Glashow, M.D., and many others. During training he participated in the care of active members of the NFL and well as several Division I college athletes. He also learned the latest techniques in joint replacement surgery directly from individuals who pioneered and designed the implants. In 2010, he came to Bergen County to begin his career in orthopaedic surgery, sharing an office with his wife and her busy dermatology practice in Closter, NJ.
As an athlete Dr. Trokhan has been a National Champion, a Division I NCAA All-American multiple times, and has qualified for US Nationals and the US Olympic Trials. He understands the demands and rigors of athletic training, as well as the injuries that unfortunately manifest at times. As a surgeon he trained at a Level 1 Trauma center, which gives him a unique perspective into the treatment of different fractures and tendon injuries. Dr. Trokhan has been part of the medical team for the New York City Triathlon as well as the Westchester Toughman Triathlon.
Dr. Trokhan has published several significant articles during his career. His prospective trauma study on intertrochanteric hip fractures was published in the famous Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery (JBJS), and has been cited as a reference by his surgical peers in over 150 scientific journal articles.
Dr. Trokhan has active admission privileges at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ, Hackensack University Medical Center at Pascack Valley in Westwood, NJ. He sees patients at his primary office in Closter, NJ, as well as Valley Hospital Emergency Room follow up patients at his secondary office in Woodcliff Lake, NJ.
Dr. Trokhan strongly believes in serving his community, and the Trokhans have established small scholarships at local high schools for graduating seniors interested in medicine. Dr. Trokhan lives with his wife Eileen and three children in northern NJ.
Dr. John K. Parron, of Parron Orthopaedics LLC, is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery. His practice is located at The Trokhan Group, a multi-specialty office of independent physicians in Closter, NJ. Dr. Parron is a Bergen County native, having grown up in nearby Old Tappan, NJ. Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Parron earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Rutgers University and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ – Robert Wood Johnson University Medical School.
Dr. Parron received his orthopedic surgical training at Temple University Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine with advanced sports medicine training at University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his sports expertise, Dr. Parron brings several years of trauma training, including technical mastery of shoulder, wrist, hip, and ankle fractures.
